Bloomsday Corporate Cup, Trade Show Full; Organizers Announce Panelists for "Best Team Name" Contest

Monday, March 15, 2004

Spokane, WA—With over six weeks left before the 28th running of the Lilac Bloomsday Run, both the Corporate Cup Competition and the Trade Show are filled to capacity. Over 250 teams have signed up for the Corporate Cup Competition, and no additional teams are being accepted. In addition, vendors interested in renting booth space at the Trade Show will have to wait until Bloomsday 2005.

"This is the earliest either Corporate Cup or the Trade Show has been filled," said Karen Heaps, Bloomsday Race Coordinator. "We're really excited to see such strong interest in Bloomsday so early in the spring."

Teams lucky enough to have signed up for the Corporate Cup will be entered in the "Best Team Name" contest, a new feature of Bloomsday this year. A panel of judges will review the names and decide which ones demonstrate the most creativity in combining running or fitness with the nature of the team's business. Panelists include Spokane Mayor Jim West, Council President Dennis Hession, County Commissioner John Roskelley, Bloomsday Founder Don Kardong, Race Coordinator Karen Heaps, Dave Combs of Downtown Toyota, and Jackie Van Allen of the Spokesman-Review. The top three team names selected by the panel will be announced in the Corporate Cup results section of the Spokesman-Review on Monday after the race.

For individual Bloomies, there's a little over a month left to sign up for this year's event for the on-time fee of $10.00. Enter online or pick-up an entry form at area US Banks, Safeway Stores, Snyder Bakery Outlets, Premera Blue Cross, Holy Family Hospital and Sacred Heart Medical Center. Runners can also sign up at Gart Sports' two local stores until 9:00 pm on the deadline day, April 13th. Mail entries must be postmarked by April 13 to avoid the late entry fee of $25.00.
