Nearly 30 groups to perform along Bloomsday course

Friday, May 1, 2009

Spokane, WA—One of the most popular parts of the annual Lilac Bloomsday Run is the variety of performers along the 7.46-mile route, and this year should be no exception, as nearly 30 different individuals and groups have been scheduled throughout the course.

“We’re really pleased with this year’s lineup,” said Bloomsday Board member Dori Robertson, who works with on-course entertainment director Laurel Warner in scheduling bands and other performers along the route. “I think no matter what kind of entertainment you enjoy, you’re likely to find it somewhere on the Bloomsday course.”

This year’s on-course entertainment includes music to please a variety of tastes, including rock, pop, punk, blues, bluegrass, ska, oldies, accordion and Christian. In a Bloomsday first, the Choir from the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes will perform on the steps of the church early on the Bloomsday course. This year’s performers also include bucket band Rhythm Envy and performances by several different science fiction & fantasy actors.

Bloomsday entrants will be able to vote for their favorite performers by logging on to www.bloomsdayrun.org after the race, and prizes of $500, $300, and $150 will be awarded to the winning entertainers.

Those wanting to take advantage of over seven miles of entertainment still have time to sign up for this year’s Bloomsday Run. Late registration is available during normal Check-In hours at the Spokane Convention Center on Friday, May 1st, from 11:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, May 2nd from 9:00 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Race entry is not available on Sunday, May 3rd.
