Drummers & Dancers & Divas Take Note: On-Course Performers Have Until March 31 to Sign Up

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Please note: Thanks to an overwhelming response to our request for performers for the 35th Lilac Bloomsday Run, we have reached our quota and have closed applications. If you're interested in performing at Bloomsday '12, please check back in January of 2012. Thanks!

Spokane, WA—With the 35th running of the Lilac Bloomsday Run rapidly approaching, organizers are urging bands, drummers, dancers and other performers interested in entertaining participants to sign up soon for one of 35 spots along the route. Entertainers who would like to perform along the 7-1/2-mile course on May 1 should fill out an application and return it to the Bloomsday office by Thursday, March 31st.

“We’re working hard to schedule 35 bands along the course to celebrate our 35th year,” said Course Entertainment Director Dori Whitford. “This is the eighth year we’ve had official performers and a contest to decide which group is best, and we’ve learned that this is something our participants really enjoy.”

Last year a record 29 performers enjoyed a bright, sunny day as they entertained over 50,000 Bloomies. In post-race voting, the rock band Small Town Nation, which was located at the bottom Doomsday Hill, was selected as Best Bloomsday Entertainers, while precision bucket band Rhythm Envy and Christian rockers The VanMarter Project ended up in a dead heat for second.

Anyone with a song to sing, dance to perform, or any other sort of entertainment to share on race day is invited to apply. Forms are available at the Bloomsday office (1610 W. Riverside), online (www.bloomsdayrun.org) or by contacting the Bloomsday office (838-1579).

Organizers will review applications and select performers by April 15 for the 35 available spaces along the course. Performers must be officially signed up to be eligible to win the 2011 Best Bloomsday Entertainers award, which will be determined by race entrants who log on and vote after the race. The top three performers will receive prize money of $500, $300, and $200.

For non-performers, sign-up for the 35th annual Lilac Bloomsday Run is now available online at www.bloomsdayrun.org. For those wishing to mail in their entries, printed entry brochures are available at Washington Trust Bank locations, Safeway stores, the two Sports Authority stores in Spokane, and other locations throughout the region.
