BLOOMSDAY 2022 FINISHER SHIRT REVEALED

46th Shirt Designed by Spokane Artist

Spokane, WA—The Bloomsday finisher shirt, for the first time in 3 years, was revealed on the streets of Spokane.  This year’s shirt was designed by Spokane artist Emerald Dumas.  The design which features the numerals from the year 2022, also incorporate Spokane’s most iconic landmarks:  the Pavilion, the Spokane River, the Clocktower and the Monroe Street bridge.

Dumas, who has been running Bloomsday ever since she moved to Spokane in 2009, considers herself a huge Bloomsday fan.  During the pandemic, her family has turned virtual Bloomsday into a new family tradition.  “I love the tradition of Bloomsday and for the shirt design I wanted to incorporate the iconic landmarks of Spokane but in a fun, bright way,” said Dumas.   “When I got the call, I was definitely surprised and excited, and of course I couldn’t tell anyone, which for me is quite difficult because my family is so supportive.  They know that I entered a design, which made it incredibly challenging once they started asking me if my design was chosen.”

Emerald Dumas is a freelance graphic design artist.  In 2021, Dumas designed the official Bloomsday race medal.

The Bloomsday secret finisher shirt is a tradition that dates back to the first Bloomsday.  Only finishers receive a T-shirt and the design and color of the shirt is only made known once the starter pistol fires for the first race.

Zome Design in Spokane Valley was the screen printer of the 2022 Finisher T-shirt. Companies printing the T-shirt have to sign a confidentiality agreement attesting that they will not reveal the shirt color or shirt design.  It is quite literally Spokane’s best kept secret.
