Cool and calm, a great way to not only describe the weather today but also appropriate for the pride of the Palouse, Susannah Scaroni, as she traversed the course again this year. Until the bottom of Doomsday, where she unleashed a climbing attack on her home course that only a true Bloomie can appreciate. Finishing 11 minutes ahead of her nearest female competitor and narrowly missed her course record with a time of 30:02. Scaroni displayed her prowess as a titan in the sport of wheelchair racing.
Rookie Bloomie and 19 year old sophomore standout at the University of Illinois, Evan Correll took the win with a time of 28:38 after a strong surge at the corner of Riverside and Government Way. Second was Phillip Croft (30:23), a ParaSport Spokane alumni , and sophomore at the formidable University of Illinois with Jason Robinson (30:49) rounding out the Illini podium sweep.
Hannah Babalola of New Jersey was 2nd (41:26)in the women’s division with ParaSport Spokane alum and Paralympian, Hannah Dederick takes 3rd in her fifth Bloomsday start (41:30).
Santiago Sanz wins the Open Quad division in a time of 37:49 to mark his 13th Bloomsday title, this surpasses Jean Driscoll as the most winningest wheelchair racer.
Ghanaian Raphael Botsyo lead the Masters division and repeats as champion again this year with a time of 36:46. He expresses his thanks to the many local supporters who help fundraise to support his travel to this years Bloomsday.
